The Last Pines Express Our artist Robin Pinnock has recreated this fine painting of the the last up "Pines Express" passing through Shillingstone  on the Somerset & Dorset Railway to commemorate the 50th anniversary of this run.  On September 8th 1962, BR Class 9F 2-10-0 "Evening Star" left Bournemouth West on the final summer Saturday through express workings over the line to do battle once more on the steep Mendip gradients between Evercreech Junction and Bath. The re-routeing of the "Pines Exress" to run via Oxford and Basingstoke which together with the withdrawal of all of the summer Saturday through trains was to herald the "END" of the Somerset & Dorset railway.  The print run of only 250 quality prints are signed and numbered by the artist. The first 50 have been donated to the Shillingstone restoration project for their £50,000 track purchase appeal (please see their website) The size of the print is aprox. 24 x 16 inches and the image only size is aprox.20 x 13 inches. The price of £30 includes postage and tubing.
